The Downton Abbey movie is official. Deadline reports that studio Focus Features has given the green light to a movie that will reunite the principal cast of the acclaimed period drama, including Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville.
The script was written by Downton creator Julian Fellowes. The movie will be directed by Brian Percival, who previously directed the series' pilot. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
The ITV and PBS series ran for six seasons from 2010 to 2015 and won 15 Emmys. The series finale — a Christmas special — brought the story to a seeming close on New Year's Eve 1925. But life goes on, and so there are more stories to tell about the Crawley family and their servants.
The movie will go into production later this summer at Highclere Castle in Hampshire, England, the main filming location for the show.
Downton Abbey is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
