During his teary goodbye with the cast and crew, Geary's co-star Genie Francis, who plays Luke's wife Laura, called working with him "the best acting partnership I've ever known," Entertainment Weekly reports. Francis also thanked Geary for sending her flowers after they filmed a rape scene together in 1979, according to EW.
Geary joined General Hospital in 1978. His final episode will air later this summer. "They've done a wonderful job of wrapping up the character," Geary told EW. "This seems like the ideal time to go."
Several of Geary's co-stars, including Maurice Benard and Laura Wright, shared tributes to the actor on social media. Check out some of them below:
To the legend Tony Geary not just a great actor but a great guy and I'm proud to call him my friend pic.twitter.com/Imv24NZ7hi— Maurice Benard (@MauriceBenard) June 24, 2015

Uncle Luke and I. What a pleasure it was to not only meet this #livinglegend but to watch him work, and fortunately, also work with him. He couldn't have been more kind and gracious to me on my first day back in #GH. A true professional with a penchant pulling things out of his hat that. I one in set expected. He could take a 1.5 page monologue and not only make it believable but also interesting, humorous and heartfelt. You're a true professional and gentleman #anthonygeary #tonygeary. I look forward to the next time we stand cross from each other and make believe.
What was your favorite Luke story on General Hospital?
