There's some staff changes coming to St. Bonaventure Hospital on The Good Doctor.
It turns out that Jared (Chuku Modu) will be taking the job in Denver after all. Deadline reports that Modu will not be returning for the sophomore season of the ABC hit. After a rocky year of residency at St. Bonaventure, including being let go for punching a superior and then suing his way back into the hospital, Jared was feeling conflicted about trying to stay with his resident family or moving on for a fresh start. Apparently, the mountain air of Colorado is calling his name.
It's not all bad news though. Deadline also confirms that Paige Spara — better known as Shaun's (Freddie Highmore) love interest Lea — will be returning in Season 2 as a series regular. That presumably means she's back from Pennsylvania and Shaun has his girl back, but also that we've probably seen the last of his replacement neighbor Kenny (Chris D'Elia).
The other residents will be staying put. Both Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) and Alex (Will Yun Lee) will continue their residency as series regulars at St. Bonaventure after being added into rotation after the mid-season premiere. Morgan has a ways to go in proving that she can be a team player after going cutthroat on every member of the group during her short tenure. Meanwhile, Alex has made some great calls by parlaying his police background into getting answers from patients when the team needs them most.
Season 2 will also see a lot more of Dr. Audrey Lim (Christina Chang), the counterpart to Nicholas Gonzalez's Dr. Melendez. The residents will rotate shifts with each doctor as they continue on their paths to becoming solo surgeons.
The Good Doctor returns this fall on ABC.
