In the latest episode, The Perfectionists took some Pretty Little Liars twists and left off with a meaty cliffhanger to launch us into the back half of the first season. Plus, my No. 1 suspect reappeared just when it seemed like it was time to rule her out, which is great news. Let's dig into what the trio was up to this week.
At first it looked as though the trio was going to implode as they found out each other's secrets (interestingly, both Dylan's (Eli Brown) and Caitlin's (Sydney Park) secrets affect Ava (Sofia Carson) and Ava's damaging secret is yet to be revealed, so look for that shoe to drop at some point). Caitlin outing Ava to the school and Dylan's one-night stand with Nolan (Chris Mason) had Ava reeling and ready to give up on the friendship. But fortunately, when the chips were down, Ava found she couldn't stay away from her new best friends. Unfortunately, they may not feel that way about her when whatever else Nolan had on her is revealed. There's no way her only secret is that she has a stash of money she uses to pay for school. That doesn't have any stakes with Dylan or Caitlin, so there has to be something else.
Speaking of stakes, however, the one person who cared a lot about Ava's money is Dana Booker (Klea Scott), who posed as Ava's father in some cryptic messages to get Ava to meet her in the woods with a bag full of cash. Luckily, Ava wasn't quite dumb enough to bring the money with her, though someone needs to have a talk with her about how dangerous it is to meet someone in the woods in the middle of the night, even if you do think it's your father. Be smarter, Ava.
While all this was going on, Caitlin was busy trying to drug Mason (Noah Grey-Cabey) and get him to confess to killing Nolan. It was the trio's plan, but Caitlin being the current object of Mason's affection obsession made her the obvious choice to actually pull it off. However, when Mason met up with her in the cabin, not only did he refuse to drink, but he was acting very sketchy and slightly menacing, so Caitlin did what any good Liar would do — she bashed him on the head and ran off, taking his phone with her.
But just like Hanna (Ashley Benson) in the midseason finale of PLL Season 1, before Caitlin & Co. could get a good look at Mason's phone, someone ran her down with a car. It's fun when little PLL connections like this pop up on the show, as long as The Perfectionists doesn't overdo it and suddenly have Dylan's love interest try to drown him in a pool or something.
Presumably, Caitlin will be fine because duh, but what do you want to bet Mason's phone is toast?
Was he driving the car, though? Doesn't seem likely. Mason is way too much of a red herring at this point. My money is on Zoe (Roxanne Stathos), Ava's assistant who helped her get ready for the fashion show this week. Something about Zoe screams red flag to me, so keep an eye on that.
Alison & Mona
Our two resident sleuths uncovered some interesting puzzle pieces this week. First, Alison (Sasha Pieterse) got to spend some quality time with Taylor (Hayley Erin) after Taylor took off in a truck towing the RV Alison was locked in but then blew a tire in the middle of nowhere. It turned out Taylor faked her death because someone was trying to kill her, which Alison can definitely relate to.
Taylor thought the same person who was trying to kill her was the person who killed Nolan, which is probably true. And she wasn't sure if she can rule out her mother, even though Alison thought Claire (Kelly Rutherford) was not faking her grief. It does raise the question, though — where is Mr. Hotchkiss and would he have been able to kill his children?
It also turned out that Taylor had a connection to Ray Hogadorn (Duffy Epstein), the maintenance man whose lair Mona (Janel Parrish) found. Ray told Mona that Taylor was kind of his friend; she reminded him of his lost love, Angela, who also committed suicide by jumping off a local bridge. That bit of information cannot be a throwaway line, so let's add "Who is Angela and why did she kill herself, if she's even actually dead?" to the list of mysteries.
After talking to Ray, Mona decided she and Alison needed to get Taylor out of town, but just when they decided to tell her, Alison discovered that Taylor was missing. Did she run away from Alison's house? Or was she taken?
