Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) will not be back for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6, but there will be a supervillain who looks just like him causing trouble for all of Earth, as this new trailer confirms.
"We lost someone, a leader," Mack (Henry Simmons) says in a somber voiceover, solidifying Coulson's fate in the Season 5 finale. "I'll never be the director Coulson was, but we can save other lives, and that's what we're going to do."
The team won't have much time to mourn Coulson's loss, though, because they'll have to gear up for a fight with Sarge, Coulson's extraterrestrial doppelganger, who has come to the planet to wreak untold havoc. He seems to get some amusement out of being so spookily familiar to members of Coulson's old crew.
"I've been to a lot of worlds, some good, some garbage, but I've never been to one where people recognize my face," Sarge taunts May (Ming-Na Wen), who is obviously going to struggle to distinguish him from the person she cared for. Of course, he might make it easier for her as time passes. As the heroes of S.H.I.E.L.D. try to determine who he is, where he came from, and what he wants, NotCoulson says, "I'm gonna burn it all down."
"I've been hunting your kind my entire life," Sarge explains in a calmly sinister villain monologue. "There's no use hiding. We'll always find you."
One glimmering bit of hope amid all the tough and confusing fighting ahead is that it looks like frozen Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) might finally be retrieved by his friends, as we see a quick glimpse of Jemma (Elizabeth Henstridge) opening his casket-like space container.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Friday, May 10 on ABC.
