It's a great year to be Mahershala Ali. Coming off his Oscar win for Green Book and his well-received run in True Detective's third season, Marvel revealed at this year's San Diego Comic-Con that the actor will take over for Wesley Snipes in an upcoming reboot of Blade. Now, he gets to add another special credit to his resume: a guest-starring role in the critically acclaimed series Ramy.
Ali, who said he's a huge fan, will bring his talents to the Hulu comedy's second season. No word yet on who he'll play, but we're hoping for at least one reference to his forthcoming superhero role.
Ramy centers on first-generation Egyptian-American Ramy Hassan (Ramy Youssef), who embarks on a "spiritual journey in his politically divided New Jersey neighborhood." The refreshing series explores the dichotomy of Ramy's identity as both a member of an extremely religious community and as part of the millennial generation that doesn't necessarily believe in life after death. Season 2 finds him deeper in that journey as he embraces a stronger commitment to Islam.
Season 1 of Ramy is currently streaming on Hulu.
