Every fall, we ask you to weigh in on what you think of the best — and — worst new shows of the season. This year, for the first time ever, we opened the competition up to all new shows, including cable and streaming alongside the traditional broadcast series.

But even opening the pool of contenders up didn't stop a broadcast drama from taking the crown. According to readers, NBC's sci-fi thriller Manifest is the best new fall show, receiving a seriously impressive 82 percent approval rating. The series stars Josh Dallas and Melissa Roxburgh as siblings who return home after their plane disappeared for five years, only no time has passed for them or the other passengers on board. Manifest now joins the esteemed ranks of previous Popularity Contest winners, including S.W.A.T., Designated Survivor, Blindspot, Gotham, Sleepy Hollow and Arrow.

However, there was one show that was hot on Manifest's tail: Legacies, The CW's spin-off of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, came in second with an 81 percent approval rating, nearly snaking the top spot at the last minute. NBC's New Amsterdam, which stars Ryan Eggold as a maverick doctor, came in third with 77 percent, followed by ABC's Nathan Fillion cop drama The Rookie, which earned 76 percent. Fox's The Cool Kids rounded out the top five with 73 percent.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum, Fox's comedy Rel, which stars Get Out scene stealer Lil Rel Howery, received the unwanted honor of being the most disliked new show, getting only a 22 percent approval rating. Hulu's horror anthology series Into the Dark didn't fare much better (25 percent), nor did the streaming service's Sean Penn drama The First (26 percent) or USA's TV adaptation of The Purge (26 percent).

Of all the new shows of the season, only one has been canceled so far: The Good Cop, Netflix's procedural starring Josh Groban and Tony Danza, was canceled earlier this month. The series received mixed reviews from TV Guide users, nabbing a mediocre 55 percent approval rating. Several shows, though, have been picked up for full seasons already, including All American, A Million Little Things and God Friended Me; with a few nabbing Season 2 renewals as well, such as Kidding, The Purge and Mayans.
