The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards are almost here, and there's a lot to look forward to this year. For one thing, the Television Academy will finally get to weigh in on Game of Thrones' most divisive season ever and decide whether the show will remain king, despite all the character controversies and leftover coffee cups and such, or if a new winner for Outstanding Drama Series will be crowned this year instead. HBO's fantasy megahit already picked up 10 trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys last week. The Emmys will also bring some fresher favorites into the fold this year, including a few buzzy first-time nominees, like our pick for the best show on television right now, Schitt's Creek, which is looking to upset reigning champ The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and returning favorite Veep.
Plus, with no host on tap to steer the ship, who knows what surprises might be in store for the telecast itself. We're not exactly rooting for another Moonlight-at-the-Oscars-style snafu to go down on live television again, but we also wouldn't want to miss out on the meme flurrying that would follow if something like that did happen this year.
