Lifetime has fired the help. The network has canceled the soapy drama Devious Maids after four seasons, TVGuide.com has learned.
Created by Desperate Housewives' Marc Cherry and produced by Eva Longoria, Devious Maids centered on a handful of Latina maids working for the rich and powerful in Beverly Hills. It was originally developed for ABC but moved to Lifetime after ABC passed.
Although the series debuted strong for the network, the ratings for the Season 4 finale — now series finale — drew only a 0.3 rating in adults ages 18 to 49, with fewer than 900,000 total viewers.
Devious Maids was one of two original series at the network, the other being UnReal, which had an acclaimed first season only to fall short of expectations when it went off the rails in Season 2. UnReal was renewed for Season 3 earlier this summer.
Deadline was first to report the cancellation.
