Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, whom the network describes as "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him." Vaughn will star as Frank Semyon, a career criminal whose move into a legitimate enterprise is threatened when his business partner is killed.
Both men had been rumored for the roles for weeks, with Farrell accidentally confirming his part a few days ago, so the castings aren't too surprising. However, the network did add one curveball to the roster of True Detective's sophomore season:Justin Lin, of Fast and Furious fame, will direct the first two episodes of the Emmy-winning anthology.
Season 2 will also feature one female lead, which has not yet been cast.
Who do you think is most likely to have their McConaissance: Farrell or Vaughn?
